Establish School WASH

Our projects

Establish School WASH

Water, sanitation and hygiene

The purpose

Water, sanitation and hygiene

This project aims to support access to safe water, toilets and handwashing facilities, alongside hygiene education and menstrual health support, in primary schools we plan to work with.

Access to clean water and adequate sanitation helps protect pupils’ health, dignity and wellbeing, supports school attendance and makes schools more welcoming places to learn.

What support could include

  • Safe water points and accessible handwashing stations.
  • Clean, private and accessible toilets.
  • Menstrual hygiene education and support.
  • Hygiene education for pupils and school teams.
  • Guidance on maintaining water and sanitation facilities.

The difference we aim to make

  • Better access to safe, private and accessible water and sanitation facilities.
  • Stronger hygiene habits that help protect pupils’ health.
  • Fewer barriers to attendance and participation, including those linked to menstrual hygiene.

Our approach

Shaped by each school

Support should respond to a clear school priority, be suitable for the learners who will use it and be practical to maintain. The final scope will depend on assessed needs and available resources.

Listen and agree priorities

  • We plan to work with schools to identify needs and agree appropriate support, permissions and responsibilities.

Plan practical delivery

  • Local experts will review proposed activities for suitability, cost, accessibility and safe use.

Follow up and learn

  • For approved projects, we intend to document the support provided, seek school feedback and review its usefulness.

Help in a useful way

  • Contact us before offering books, equipment or other materials so we can discuss suitability and delivery arrangements.
